Jazz and Pop Vocalist Janet Paulsen, a Hon* from Baltimore, will feature songs and anecdotes in tribute to John Waters. This September 2023 John Waters, Baltimore filmmaker, writer, actor, and artist receives a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. John Waters is best known for directing boundary-pushing independent comedies like “Pink Flamingos” (1972) and the original “Hairspray” (1988) among other films. Walters’ films include Glenn Milstead, better known for his drag name Divine, and actress/jazz singer Mink Stole. Janet’s show will include songs from his films along with his personal favorites, and other jazz and pop standards.

Halloween is the time of year that best reflects the spirit of John Waters, especially Friday the 13th!  Pick a character from one of his movies and dress the part.  Tease up your highest beehive and put on the jeweled cat eyeglasses, heavy lipstick, faux animal prints, fabulous dresses and boas, Hon, and see you on Friday, October 13. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes.

Janet Paulsen is a singer in demand who lives in Baltimore. She appears throughout the East Coast, including the premiere jazz club Keystone Korner. Janet performs regularly with a 1920s Orchestra and other big band ensembles. In the words of the great jazz singer Jane Monheit, “Janet brings passionate enthusiasm to the Songbook and gives her whole heart to every lyric.”
