Antar Goodwin is a distinguished slide guitarist, bassist, songwriter and artist based in Philadelphia, PA. With a career spanning decades of collaboration with some of the industry’s most iconic artists, Goodwin has earned recognition as one of the most versatile musicians in the business.
Goodwin’s musical odyssey began on the vibrant streets of New York City, where he cut his teeth as the bassist in the house band for several of the city’s most renowned venues. This invaluable experience led to opportunities to share the stage and studio with legends such as Benny Golson, Abbey Lincoln, Sting, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, Patty Smythe, and more. Goodwin’s versatility and innate musicality quickly earned him recognition as one of the industry’s most sought-after musicians.
It was a Mississippi Fred McDowell rendition of a song that Goodwin’s grandmother sang during his childhood that sparked his interest in the slide guitar. This awakening ignited a passion within him that he hadn’t known was there, leading him on a musical journey that would ultimately culminate in the creation of his first album as an artist, The Game.
However, Goodwin’s journey took an unexpected detour when he faced a life-threatening heart condition that required urgent surgical intervention. Following a series of complications, near-death experiences, and a grueling year of rehabilitation, Goodwin emerged from this transformative journey with a renewed sense of purpose and an unyielding determination to pursue his passion for music on his own terms.
