Let’s laugh AND get a little scared together to kick off the season! In my humble opinion, when it comes to anthology horror, Trick ‘r Treat walked so its scarier, edgier cousin, V/H/S, could run.

Synopsis: Set over the course of a single suburban All Hallow’s Eve-ning, Trick ‘r Treat’s multiple storylines are stitched together with a thread of black comedy that complements the film’s earnest love for the spirit (of) Halloween. From serial killers to a tiny supernatural enforcer of the laws of ‘Ween, Michael Dougherty’s debut feature-length film delights in winking at some of our favorite horror and seasonal conventions because it loves them as much as we do. 
There’s a lot to love if you’re a fan of Universal-style horror, Bryan Cox chewing scenery, or a fan of films from Halloween to Hocus Pocus. As a kid who grew up in the burbs, this is my #1 “reason for the season” Halloween watch. Sorry in advance for the Marilyn Manson soundtrack jumpscare.
