a stage play

Darkness of Despair is the story of a depressed woman who while struggling to make peace between her second husband and her daughter from her first marriage is visited by an old acquaintance who threatens to reveal a secret.
Lucretia Leary seems content to languish on her sofa rather than face constant questioning about her condition from her daughter Ronnie Wise, the growing rift between her and husband Jermaine Leary, or the dysfunction of their blended family. Ronnie blames her mother for running away her father and her boyfriend, so she immerses herself in cell phone conversations and texting to escape the gloom that hangs over the household. Jermaine immerses himself in the bottle to escape the reality that his wife seems to be mentally slipping away from him and the reality that he will never gain respect from his stepdaughter.
The arrival of an old acquaintance Camillia Rich, believed to be a nurse, pushes Lucretia to try to protect the slim chance that she has of keeping her family together. Camillia blackmails Lucretia into allowing her to stay for a few days by threatening to expose a secret. The mood in the house changes as Camellia’s wild and seductive personality begins to take over.
